Throughout the convention, we will be holding panels. These panels are meant to be informative and/or entertaining. Seating is limited so first come, first serve. The description, time, and date of the panels offered are shown below.
Board games 101 (Friday 3pm-4pm & Saturday Noon-1pm)
Never played anything more than Monopoly or Risk? Did your family convince you to come to a Board Game Convention (whatever that is..)? Are you not really sure what games you should play? Well you’re in luck! This panel is just for you. During this panel we are going to explain to you the many different types of tabletop games, some of the common terms, board game etiquette, and a list of beginner games of varying genre. Along with this, we will be giving explanations of the many events happening at BCGC’16.
What Is Fun? Gaming Don’t Hurt Me (Friday 4pm-5pm)
Things can be said to be fun or not fun, but what does that mean exactly? Borrowed from game theory, the 8 Types of Fun look at different aspects of enjoyment that make different games fun to different people. To better discover the games you’d like to play, come to this panel and learn what games are the most fun for you.
Making a tabletop game (Friday & Saturday 4pm-5pm)
Have you ever wanted to create your own game? Do you have an idea that is just waiting to be put on cardboard? This panel will cover the basics of designing and testing a tabletop game. We will go through the trials and tribulations of taking your game from an idea to a working design. Topics that will be covered include: design, prototyping, playtesting, and publishing.
Introduction to Improv workshop (Saturday 2pm-3:30pm)
An Improv workshop? What? Are your dreams coming true? You better believe it, because the Miners Improv League and the El Paso Improv League are going to show you the basics of doing Improv. Crazy right? NO! Crazy would be drinking snakes blood to summon the Great dragon of Teke-O-mon while trying to do your taxes. That’s crazy! (see right there, we just did Improv!) This workshop will show how to start Improv as a performer and using Improv in real life as well.
Improv Short Form show PG13 (Friday 7pm-8:30pm and Saturday 8pm-9:30pm)
The Improv League will be performing an improvised comedy show reminiscent of the old “Whose Line is it Anyway?”. This show is Short Form style. Come ready for laughs and a great time!
Fantasy RP style show 18+ (Saturday 11pm-12:30am)
Follow a dungeon master and his team of improvisers as they live action role play a story of adventure and conquest. The adventures are created by audience suggestions—they are at your mercy! Battle on stage as live enemies and become part of the adventure! All attendees much show a valid id proving they are 18+ in age.
Improv Long Form show 18+ (Friday 11pm-12:30am)
The Improv League will be performing an improvised comedy show reminiscent of “ASSSCAT”. This show is Long Form style. Come ready for laughs and a great time! All attendees much show a valid id proving they are 18+ in age.
Ruben and The Novelty Shack: Live! (Sunday 11am-Noon)
Join us for the musical parody stylings of Ruben and The Novelty Shack! -Going on their fifteenth year, Ruben and The Novelty Shack is known for parodying everything from nerd culture to real estate. Join us for an hour of parody and observational comedy, as hosted by Ruben Rascon of Ruben and The Novelty Shack!
The Gamers movies (Friday, Saturday and Sunday)
- The Gamers (48mins): Friday 5pm-6pm, Saturday 1pm-2pm and Sunday 1pm-2pm
- The Gamers: Dorkness Rising (1h 45mins): Friday 6pm-8pm, Saturday 5pm-7pm and Sunday 2pm-4pm
The movies focus the antics done while playing fantasy games such as Dungeons and Dragons.
Running a Panel
If you would like to run a panel, please send us the title and a short abstract on your topic. Panels are intended for presentations, workshops, and small shows.
Those that run a panel will be given a number of BCGC dice based on the panel runtime time, complexity, and number of fellow panelist involved.
